You may have noticed that from 1 February 2018, medicines containing a low dosage of codeine are no longer available without prescription in Australia (https://www.nps.org.au/medical-info/clinical-topics/over-the-counter-codeine-changes-to-supply ). Research has shown that low-dose containing products offered little relief when it came to additional pain relief. Plus, there are many known side effects such as constipation, feeling sick and feeling sleepy. Codine is an opiate, inappropriate use can also lead to addition addiction and physical dependence.
Panadeine, NurofenPlus, Codral and Demazin are just a few common medicines for cold, flu and cough, though some people misused them for pain relief, which used to be available over the counter. Now, patients seeking pain relief need to obtain a prescription from their doctors or specialists.
But don’t panic: there are other ways to help reduce pain and aches in the body. Cold laser or Low level laser therapy (LLLT), one of light therapies, is the number one method to relief pain and fight inflammation: LLLT is proved scientifically and clinically effective in treatinga range of inflammation-related conditions, such as neck or back pain, joint pain, migraine and headaches, tendinitis, bursitis, soft tissue injury, fibromyalgia and degenerative diseases. LLLT decreases inflammation, relieves pain and promotes the healing process. It is a non-invasive, painless procedure without any adverse side effects. In addition, it is suitable for patients of all ages.
In our clinic we provide LLLT, laser acupuncture and non-invasive laser blood irradiation. We help people by treating illnesses and living their lives free of pain. Please call 9389 9699 to make your booking or call 0481 354 188 to discuss your condition with an experienced consultant.
Dr Norman Doidge is currently in Sydney to promote his new book at Sydney Writer’s Festival - The Brain’s Way of Healing, which chronicles the amazing journeys of men and women who battled and "trained" their brains to stop processing chronic pain signals in the relatively new field of science called neuroplastisity. I’ve had a number of new patients who have found my website through Dr Doidge’s book.
In Chapter 4 of the book, Dr Doidge discussed and presented cases where Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) had helped patients with pain and other chronic conditions. If you missed the talks in Sydney, please listen to Dr Doidge's interview with ABC at the following link.http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/2015/04/aim_20150419.mp3
In my clinic and past research, evidence shows that LLLT is effective for patients with chronic conditions in terms of pain reduction and initiation of tissue healing process. My patient V.B. has been suffering severe headache for years and went to hospital 4 times recently without any significant improvements. When she read the book, she visited my clinic. Following a careful assessment she has been offered a combination of LLLT and laser acupuncture treatments. She has reported that feels great after 5 sessions of the treatment.
Many of my other patients have benefited from LLLT treatment across a range of pain related conditions, for example, D.H. (Back pain), L.M. (Knee and feet pain), D. M. (Achilles tendon injury and neck pain), C. B. (Post surgical pain), M.D. (Neck pain), A.S. (Shoulder/hip & groin pain), and N.T. (Neck pain and Pins and needle in hand).
If like them, you wish to explore an alternative and clinically proven way of treating pain, contact my clinic. I will assess and design a personalised treatment plan, to get the best outcomes for you.
